Facilities Maintenance

To complete his or her Facilities Maintenance training, a student must master dozens of skills in the following categories:

  • Use, storage and handling of all tools and equipment, and general safety
  • Door hardware and doors
  • Basic wall construction
  • Drywall/plaster surfaces, trim and moldings
  • Window glass repair and reinstallation
  • Weatherproofing with caulking and weatherstripping
  • Gutters and downspouts (clean, inspect, repair and replace)
  • Floor surfaces
  • Pipes, drains, faucets, water closets and water heaters
  • Circuit breakers, fuses and circuits
  • Power supply cords, switches and receptacle, interior and exterior lighting
  • Surface applications and tile
  • Basic heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Groundskeeping
  • Building safety and security, administration
  • Swimming pool maintenance and snow removal
